College is a time when you are learning and growing. You're exploring new relationships, navigating unfamiliar experiences, and claiming your independence in the world. This time is supposed to be empowering and life-changing. However, this change can also take its toll on your mental health. With the added pressure of succeeding in school, college can easily become a place of imbalance, confusion, and anxiety.
It's a balancing act consisting of your personal life and academics, and a social life that requires constant attention. You're meeting new people, trying to cultivate new friendships, and making a good impression. That is a lot of pressure. Sometimes, you may feel left out, not included in something with friends, or not chosen for a club or other social group. It can be hard to not take these rejections personally, and it can make you feel even more isolated.
Maybe you're having a difficult time staying motivated with completing assignments or anything related to your education. You feel like you can't keep up with the work due to all your commitments. There are so many classes and study groups that you have to attend along with being in a sorority or fraternity and trying to make new friends. It's a lot for somebody who isn't used to managing their time so efficiently or juggling this many commitments.
Or, you're a parent who has noticed their college student has been struggling more than usual. You know they're trying to make sense of this new phase in their lives, but it seems like it has been a major challenge. You just want to do whatever it takes to help them, but you're not sure what that is.
Just like college, post-grad is another big transition. You can feel overwhelmed with the pressure of pursuing your career, finding a job, and making decisions about your future. You may have anxiety over "what's next" and feel uncertain of the direction you want to take.
