WOMEN IN WELLNESS: FEATURING ALANA TENDLER
Jennifer: Please introduce yourself in a few sentences for our readers.
Alana: I’m an efficiency enthusiast who has been living internationally for the past 5 years. I help businesses streamline their processes and achieve operational excellence. In my spare time I practice yoga and enjoy immersing myself in new cultures.
J: What are you currently doing and how did you get into this field?
A: I’m currently the business support manager for a coworking community in Australia called Hub Australia. After getting an MBA at Tel Aviv University, I wanted to use my experience and education to work for a business that I felt connected to. I feel strongly that having a community is a key component of living a fulfilling life so the coworking industry was a natural fit for me.
J: How do you balance a busy career as well as healthy personal life?
A: I make sure to take time everyday for self care. Some days that looks like a yoga class, other days it’s a home cooked meal or simply making time to connect to a close family member or friend on Facetime.
J: At the beginning of the day, how do you prepare for a good day and at night, how do you wind down before bed?
A: I start my day with a meditation, a gratitude list and a glass of water with lemon. In the evening I typically wind down by reading – I find that books transport me to another time and place, helping me to let go of the day and relax before bed.
J: What does your daily wellness routine look like?
A: A healthy breakfast. A few minutes to gather myself between meetings, especially when I’m hosting the meeting and/or training staff. Evening yoga or some form of movement.
J: In such a busy and fast-paced city, how do you find time for yourself during the day?
A: In my professional adult life I have lived and worked in Melbourne, Australia, Tel Aviv, Israel and New York, New York. One thing that always helps me to feel grounded and taken care of is yoga. Another is having people I feel close; both at work and in my personal life. Self care is so important, but so is having a community and relationships to rely on.
J: Any tips to avoid burnout?
A: Notice when you’ve taken on more than you can chew and clear your plate of anything that isn’t top priority.
J: What are three things you could not live without?
A: Friends and Family, Yoga, my Kindle.
J: What book/podcast are you currently reading/listening to?
A: Wise Woman Podcast by Erin Doppelt and Becoming by Michelle Obama
J: What is the best advice you’ve been given?
A: Trust your instincts.
